Il 2021 è, quindi, l’anno di Paolo Albera. Eletto dall’undicesimo Capitolo Generale a prendere il posto di don Rua, don Albera fu Rettor Maggiore dal 1910 fino alla sua morte il 29 ottobre 1921.
L’anno sarà inaugurato durante le Giornate di Spiritualità della Famiglia Salesiana, 15-17 gennaio 2021, che quest’anno, a causa della pandemia, si svolgeranno online. Un video intervista con il sig. Paolo Vaschetto, SDB, sarà presentato in questi prossimi giorni. Il sig. Vaschetto si sta specializzando in storia salesiana all’UPS, e conosce bene la figura e l’opera di don Albera.
L’anno a lui dedicato si concluderà durante le Giornate di Spiritualità, 13-16 gennaio 2022.
Nei prossimi mesi uno dei momenti clou sarà il Congresso su don Albera organizzato dall’Istituto Storico Salesiano (ISS) – Roma, dal 30 ottobre al 1° novembre 2021, a Valdocco.

Durante tutto l’anno ci sarà anche una mostra speciale, “Paolo Albera (1845-1921): Il mondo negli occhi”, nel museo “Casa Don Bosco”, Valdocco, Torino. La mostra sarà inaugurata dal Rettor Maggiore, Don Ángel Fernández Artime. Il materiale fotografico e documentario è frutto della meticolosa ricerca fatta nell’Archivio Centrale Salesiano e in altre collezioni dal sig. Vaschetto con i suoi collaboratori, e ci offre uno spaccato estremamente interessante sulla vita del secondo successore di Don Bosco: i tanti e impegnativi viaggi nel mondo salesiano, sia come rappresentante di Don Rua che come Rettor Maggiore; la corrispondenza portata avanti da don Albera con gli oltre 1500 Salesiani direttamente coinvolti nella prima guerra mondiale, ed estratti dal suo diario spirituale, scritto non solo in italiano ma per anni anche in francese e in inglese.
